
Gao Renqi painting gallery
Gao Renqi, a famous military painter born in Shisi town of Taicang city, is currently a deputy division-level professional painter in the Jinan Military Region. His art works won the gold medal in the art tournament of the army, and were selected the National Art Exhibition several times. The gallery is located in Liuzhou road in the new districts, with a possession of over 60 oil paintings of Gao Renqi.
Former Residence of Zhang Pu
Zhang Pu(1602-1641), famous man of letters at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the leader of “Fu Society”. Located at Ximen Street, Taicang City, his former residence was constructed during the periods of Emperors Tianqi and Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty, which is a three-story combined house with courtyard featuring typical architectural styles of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Shun Feng Yuan Moutain Villa
It occupies an area of 700 mu, mainly engaged in development of special agriculture and tourism. Through careful planning and construction for nearly 3 years, it is near completion. There is the biggest bamboo pavilion of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces in the middle of Peony Garden, around which, there is 80-mu bamboo fishing platform that can accommodate 500 people to fish simultaneously. Now, there are more than 10,000 fishes in the pond. There are varieties of valuable trees of more than 1,000 years old and 100,000 imported Chinese roses in the mountain villa. And there are more than 100 varieties of peony in Peony Garden. The infrastructures such as 20,000 m2 greenhouse of vegetables, 30 mu fishpond, 100 mu potted flowers area, 80 mu leisure center and 90 mu. Greening area have been all-roundly established.
Old Town Of Shaxi
Located in the middle of Taicang City, Shaxi Town has won titles of “National Sanitation Town”, “Model Town of Jiangsu Province” and “Historical and Cultural Town of Jiangsu Province”. Shaxi Town has a history of more than 1300 years, basically remaining style and features of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The dwelling houses here feature deep perspective, with water lanes distributed densely and widely. There are row upon row of waterside architectures and almost every family has a house projecting over the water. The three old bridges are also beautiful. Throughout the ages, there are many famous figures coming from Shaxi Town such as historian Sang Yue, annotator of ancient books Cheng Muheng, modern educationist Tang Wenzhi and pioneer of new dance Wu Xiaobang.
Tianfei Palace
Located at Liuhe Town, the palace was constructed in 1286 in the Yuan Dynasty. In the period of Emperor Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, every time before setting off to navigate toward the West, Zheng He, the great navigator, would come here to worship the God of Sea.。
South Garden
Constructed in the period of Emperor Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, the garden was where Wang Xijue, the royal consultant in the Ming Dynasty, used to appreciate plum blossoms and handle governmental affairs, therefore, it was also called “Royal Consultant's Mansion”. Now, the reconstructed scenic spots are Xiuxue Hall, Xiangtao Pavilion, Flower-planting Place, Crane and Plum Hall, Dahuan Pavilion, Gallery, Nine-Curved Bridge, Pond Shadow Pavilion, Well Pavilion and an arch over gateway.
Hai Tian Chan Temple
The temple is located at Banqiao Town at northern section of Hujialiu Expressway in the suburbs of Taicang City. It gets its name from an ancient poem. The temple is famous for its magnificence, which is No.1 in the east of Jiangsu Province. It occupies an area of over 100 mu, composed of Shanmen (Mountain Gate) Hall, Tianhuang (Heaven God) Hall, Daxiongbao (Magnificent) Hall, Guanyun (Cloud-watching) Hall and Dizang Pavilion.
Xi Lu Garden
Also called “Xitian”, Xilu Garden is located at 6-7 li from the west gate of Chengxiang Town, Taicang City. A work of Zhang Nanheng, famous architect in the Ming Dynasty, it was a pastoral villa built for Wang Shimin, famous painter at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, after retiring to his hometown in his later years. The owner would often meet with many painters here to compose verses and paint. In 2002, Taicnag Municipal Government began to reconstruct Xilu Garden, with an investment of RMB 40 million and an area of 450 mu. After more than 2 years, it was completed. There are pavilions, bamboo gallery, old trees, varieties of flowers and green water here. It is an open park integrating leisure, ecology and landscape where visitors could fully enjoy rural sceneries.
Shu Garden
Shu Garden was originally a place where Lu Rong, the minister in the Ming Dynasty, spent his last years. It has a total area of 150 mu, composed of four islands, on which, there are more than 50 varieties of flowers and plants, various rare birds such as ostrich, peacock, swan, pheasant and mandarin duck, architectures such as Wall of Views, Double-pavilion Stream, Octagon Pavilion, gallery, Fishing Platform, drawbridge and stone bridge and leisure places such as tea room and cafe.
Taicang Park
Located at XianFu Road, Taicang Park was constructed in 1130. There are tomb of Jia Dan, famous irrigationist in the Northern Song Dynasty, large “Iron Crucible” in the Song Dynasty and “Tonghai Spring” in the Ming Dynasty, etc. The most famous is “Momiao Pavilion”. There is also “Shuxuan Study”, with many valuable stones and tablets inlaid in the walls. In the park, there are also gallery, lotus pond and three-curved bridge.
Plum Studio
Located at Liuhe Park, it is where Mr. Zhu Qizhan, great master of traditional Chinese painting, practiced painting in his early years. It was constructed before the Anti-Japanese War, at that time, celebrities often gathered here, and artists such as Qi Baishi, Shen Yinmo, Huang Binhong and Pan Tianshou composed verses and painted for the studio.
Nan Guang Temple
Located at Nanjiao Town, the temple was constructed in the Song Dynasty, with a history of more than 800 years. Approved to be reconstructed in 1993, it occupies an area of 97 mu, mainly composed of Shanmen (Mountain Gate) Hall, Jingang(Buddha's Warrior Attendant) Hall, Guanyin (Goodness of Mercy) Hall, Dizang Hall and Fatang Fangzhang (Buddhist Abbot) Pavilion.
Song Wenzhi Gallery
Born in western suburbs of Taicang City, Song Wenzhi is the student of the famous painters Zhang Shiyuan and Wu Hufan, assuming successively member of Chinese Association of Artists, vice chairman of Jiangsu Association of Artists and professor of Nanjing University. Founded in 1989, Song Wenzhi Gallery is located at No.12, Xianfu Street(east), Taicnag City, collecting Mr. Song Wenzhi's 60 representative works from 1940s to 1980s, more than 30paintings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and 30 painted potteries in ancient China.
Wu Xiaobang House of Dance
Located at New Area of Taicang City, the building is composed of two exhibition halls of 400m2 each in floorage and one multi-functional hall of 150 m2 in floorage. Born at Shaxi Town in 1906, Wu Xiaobang is the pioneer of new dance, outstanding dancer, theorist and educationist, with former titles of chairman of Chinese Association of Dance and member of the 2nd, 5th and 6th National Political Consultative Conferences.
Taicang Museum
Established in 1987, Taicang Museum, a large-scale integrated museum of local history, is the first-established county (city) museum of the province. The main big exhibition halls are located in the former residences of Zhang Fu and Wang Xijue. Established in the era of Tianqi, Ming Dynasty, the existing three-part of Zhang Fu’s former residence is amazing mixture of sophisticated technology, reasonable planning layout, network of halls and houses, commonly known as “every room linking buliding”. The former residence of Wang Xijue, the Grand Secretary, was built during the Wingli Era of the Ming Dynasty, and the existing nine-room-wide gatehouse and the hall are remarkable among the similar constructions of Jiangsu Zhejiang provinces. The historic relics exhibited in Taicang Museum include the pottery, Chinese porcelain, bronzeware, jade article, coins, painting and calligraphy, etc. The long-time historic preservation and education has reinforced the study of the relics, the local history, maritime history. There are four main exhibition halls: the Restoring Memorial Hall, the Cultural Artifacts Exhibition Hall, the Historic Celebrities' Hall and Memorial Hall of “ Four Wangs”. Temporary exhibitions are held now and then. When entering the Taicang Museum, you will understand the passion and joy of the Taicang history.
Port Terminal
Located the Liujiagang town, eastern of Taicang City, the port is an A-class of national ports. With two petrochemical terminals already in use and a large number of multinational enterprises settling down here, Taicang city has become a beautiful landscape on the bank of the Yangtze River.
Taicang Flower & Gardening Arts Exhibition Hall
Located in Taicang Modern Agricultural Park, Taicang Flower & Gardening Arts Exhibition Hall was launched in July, 2008, and built up in the year end, harboring a greenhouse area of 4,800 m2. This hall is well facilitated with advanced temperature-regulating, ventilation and sunshade system, so that the room temperature may be kept at 10°C all year round to assure the plant growth inside. This hall focuses on flower, contributing to build an integrated multi-functional agricultural high-tech platform as well as a scenic spot combining flower sightseeing, exhibition, marketing, popular science, recreation, etc.
The cemetery of Wu Jianxiong
The cemetery of Wu Jianxiong is located beside of the Ziwei Attic of Mingde School, in Liuhe town. Wu Jianxiong, the world’s leading contemporary female physical scientist, was born in Liuhe on May 31st in the year of 1912, elected as Member of the US National Academy of Sciences in 1958, awarded the National Scientific Medal from the President Ford and also became the first female president of American Institute of Physics in 1975, awarded by the Italian President as the “Annual Outstanding Woman” in 1981, won the Puping Medal, the highest honor of science and engineering field in 1991. After her death in Feburary 17th 1997, a cemetery, designed by the Architecture Design Institute of Southeast China University, approved by the famous architecture engineer Bei Yuming, was established in Mingde School, in May 1998. Yang zhenning inscribed it with “The cemetery of Wu Jianxiong”, and Li Zhengdao autographed the cemetery.

Taicang and Today Located in the south of Jiangsu and the south bank of entrance of Changjiang River, Taicang is across the Chongming Changjiang River from Chongming Island, faces the Baoshan District and Jiading Distract on the south and joins Kunshan on the west and Changshu on the north. The total area of Taicang is 822.906 square meters of which the land area is 538.466 square meters and 284.44 square meters for the water area. Under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, Suzhou City, Taicang is a county-level city of the people's government at the municipal level.
